Hi

What’s going on with the Fam?

Olivia & Nate: Baby Kathleen was born, a little early, but healthy, on Mother’s Day, 2024. Nate enjoys his job as an electrical contractor. He has been able to include Isaiah in a couple solar projects as a casual laborer. Olivia found a great job at the Wolverine Shoe plant working in the daycare center. The daycare is available to all employees, so Katie spends her time in the daycare with all the other Wolverine kids.

Grace

Grace completed a year at Cornerstone University, in Grand Rapids, Michigan (30 minutes from Olivia and Nate’s house). She enjoys her classes towards creative writing degree. She meets with a writing club, a small discipleship group, and walks to the church next to campus each Sunday.

She insists she does not want to learn to drive a car. She also loves the idea of Isaiah being her chauffeur whenever he can.

This summer she came with Breanna’s dad and sister to be here for Isaiah’s graduation from high school. She also went on a quick road trip with us in June / July from Michigan to Texas and back (via Kentucky and Kansas).

Isaiah graduated from High School last May. He said farewell to friends, field hockey, and running lights for drama. After graduation, he spent 6 weeks in Nairobi and in Holland with friends. He has his driving license and is looking for a job and may go to Cornerstone in the fall to study Computer Science.

Jack

Jack completed elementary school and is mastering middle school life. He picked clarinet for band. The broken instrument did not play in tune, so he switched to percussion. He loves being an uncle, horse riding lessons, swimming, video games, and joined the tech crew for middle school play.

Breanna flew to US for Katie’s birth. Then she flew to Kenya for Isaiah’s graduation (and Jack’s promotion to middle school). Grace and Breanna’s father and sister came out to Kenya as well. We all flew back to US for six weeks to see family and supporters.

Jack, Jerry, and Breanna returned to Kenya in August so Breanna could start new teacher orientation. She is a fourth grade core teacher, the assistant director for the middle school play, and teaches Sunday School at church once per month.

How to Pray

Give Thanks

  • Katie’s safe arrival in May.
  • Olivia’s job that includes daycare for Katie.
  • Isaiah’s graduation and move to the US.
  • Jack’s promotion from elementary school
  • Breanna’s full time role at Rosslyn Academy as a 4th grade teacher
  • A generous gift of a Subaru to use. This has been a lifesaver since the Land Cruiser is still not legal on the road.
  • Our church in Nairobi has selected a senior pastor. This will be a big step towards healing and recovering from the unexpected resignations in 2023.
  • No further theft has occurred in our house this year

Please Pray

  • PPrOur Toyota Land Cruiser has been declared by the transportation authority to have missing paperwork. It seems like a case of corruption, and has been difficult to find a way forward
  • Wisdom to parent and care for adult children from across the Atlantic Ocean. We realize that taking a year long home assignment from 2026-2027 would be very strategic for our family, and allow us to be nearby them as Grace goes from college to a career phase of her life.
  • Jerry continues to struggle to get the demands of work done and still spend time with family and supporters. Pray for workers to come alongside and ease the load.
  • Breanna continues to learn the ropes as a new teacher. Pray for her to have energy to learn, adjust, plan, and interact with students, staff, and parents.

Rent Project

This project allows us to live about five minutes from the children’s school (Rosslyn Academy).
